There will be a Celebration of Life/ Remembrance for Mr. Cullenberg at the Whitefield School Library on January 10th, 5:30pm-7:00pm.

Ms. Northrup's 3rd grade class had a fun morning watching the movie Annabelle's Wish. And now they want to wish everyone Happy Holidays!

Pre-K made wreaths earlier this week. We had so much fun!

Just a reminder the winter concert is today at 5:30pm for grades K through 3rd and 6:30pm for grades 4 and 5. Grades 6 through 8 band and chorus will also be at 6:30pm.

It has begun!! "Flocking for Food" started this week as our own NJHS students put those pesky pink birds on the "North's" front lawn. If you see the flock on your lawn don't be surprised! It is important to know that in order to have the flock removed, you must fill out the paperwork attached to the leader of the flocks neck and return it to Whitefield School. Once paperwork is turned in a removal technician will be over within the day.

Sad News for the Whitefield Community
It is with great sadness that I report to you the passing of Mr. Dennis Cullenberg. Dennis died early this morning after a brief but intense battle with pancreatic cancer. Dennis devoted 32 years to the children of Whitefield as a highly regarded classroom teacher and colleague. His loss to this school and community is significant.
We have provided grief counselors and other resources in school for students and staff to support them through this difficult grieving period and we will continue to have those resources available next week. We are in communication with Mr. Cullenberg’s family and no formal funeral plans have been made at this point. Once we receive that information we will share it with all our WHES families.

We will holding the Parent / Teacher Conferences that were scheduled for Tuesday, November 27th on Thursday, November 29th at the same times already arranged.
If this poses a scheduling problem for you please contact our child's teacher and alternatives will be provided.
Also, because of the weather-related interruptions over the past couple of weeks, we have made the choice to move the WHES Winter Concert from December 4th to December 11th. A notice to this effect will be sent out from our music department shortly but please plan on this new date.

Boy's basketball tryouts will be held on Friday November 9th. Boy's grade 5-6 will tryout 2:30pm-3:30pm and boy's grade 7-8 will tryout 3:30pm-4:30pm.

Dear WHES Parents:
As of today, October 31st, we have a new security feature on our Main Entrance door. This allows us to keep that door locked throughout the school day and "buzz" people in who ring the bell. Because of the camera attached to the unit (located on the right of the entry door) our office staff can view the individual ringing the bell before allowing the individual to enter the school. This provides us with an extra element of security, adding to the safety of our building.
I'm sure this new feature to the school will take a little while for everyone to get used to but the end result is that WHES is much more secure and safe because of this added measure.

"At Whitefield Elementary School We Have PRIDE INSIDE"

Every year the Lion's Club sponsors a Peace Poster contest. First, second and third place winners from area schools are invited to the Lion's Club for a recognition supper. Representing our school is Kineo Kelley (1st place), Olivia Brann ( 2nd place) and Kat Thornton (3rd place). All first place posters move on to the next phase of the contest. Good luck, Kineo!
We would also like to thank The Ladies of Lincoln County for their generous donation of poster board our students used for the contest.

Attention 8th grade students and Parents:
Lincoln Academy to Host 8th Grade Family Night on November 7
All prospective students are invited to Lincoln Academy’s 2018 8th Grade Family Night, which will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 6:30 pm. The event will begin in the Alumni Dining Commons in the center of the Lincoln Academy campus at 81 Academy Hill in Newcastle.
This open house is an annual event at Lincoln Academy; a chance for families of prospective students to visit the LA campus, meet teachers and staff, and tour the school. Often this event is the first time students see their soon-to-be high school and meet many of their teachers. Although most families who attend represent incoming 9th graders, families of students interested in transferring to LA from another high school are also encouraged to attend.
This year, Lincoln Academy’s 8th Grade Family Night will begin in the Dining Commons with an orientation by current students and members of the Administration and Guidance Department. After this orientation, families can take a campus tour with student tour guides, and visit an Open House in the LA gym, where academic departments and extracurricular clubs will have tables where faculty and students are available to talk about their specialties. School representatives will speak directly to students and parents about their specific interests in and out of the classroom.
“The table format of the Open House gives prospective families a chance to meet teachers and students, and get any question answered, whether that is about a particular academic track, performing or visual arts, athletics, or a club interest, such as Debate Team or Climate Action Club,” said Sarah Wills-Viega, Lincoln Academy’s Director of Counseling and Studies. “We hope that families will leave the event with helpful information about Lincoln Academy, both in general and specific terms, and that students will be excited about coming here next year!”
Families considering Lincoln Academy should plan to attend the Open House, even if they are considering several options for high school. This event is helpful in understanding the wide variety of resources at LA, including 145 total courses, 17 Advanced Placement classes, 30 classes in visual and performing arts, a broad range of hands-on courses in the Cable-Burns Applied Technology and Engineering Center (ATEC), as well as over 40 clubs and athletic teams.
For more information about 8th Grade Family Night, please contact LA Guidance at 563-3596 ext. 125 or 128. Parking for the evening event is available in the student parking lot across from the LA gym.
