Dear RSU 12 Families, Staff, and Students, All RSU 12 schools will resume tomorrow, Monday, October 30th, starting at the regular time. As we embark on this return, please know that our schools are prepared to greet students with the utmost care and support, recognizing the challenges of the past week. I extend my sincerest gratitude for your patience and resilience as we come together to reinstate a sense of normalcy in our educational routines for the well-being of our students. Your understanding during this unsettling time has been invaluable. The safety of our students and staff remains our foremost priority. I encourage you to reassure your children that they are safe in school and that operations will proceed as usual. We also recognize the lasting impact of the distressing events from last week, and although the immediate threat has diminished, feelings of confusion, sorrow, and fear may persist. We have decided to close school again tomorrow, October 27th. Our foremost concern remains the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. The decision to extend the school closure is a difficult one, made with careful consideration of the current circumstances. Our intention is to resume regular school activities on Monday. In the meantime, please take care of yourself and your loved ones during this challenging time.

Due to last night’s terrible events in Lewiston, area towns still in lockdown, and a potential safety concern for our staff and students attending school today, all RSU 12 schools are closed today out of an abundance of caution. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this tragedy.

Our RSU 12 Staff Daycare has limited slots available for children aged 3 to 5. Our staff members have not claimed all these age 3 to 5 slots; thus, we are opening these slots to individuals outside our organization. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who knows someone who is searching for daycare services. Please note that this daycare currently operates on a school-year schedule. Please keep in mind that it is on a first-come, first-served basis. The daycare is located at Windsor Elementary School. If you are interested, kindly email rsu12daycare@gmail.com as soon as possible.

The RSU 12 Board of Directors meeting on September 14, 2023 has been postponed and rescheduled for October 12, 2023

Due to the high heat index in the 90s again this afternoon, all RSU 12 schools will be closing at 11:30 am today. Our buildings do not have air conditioning and the classrooms did not cool much last night. We are expecting many classrooms to get over 100 degrees again this afternoon. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this unexpected weather. We look forward to cooler days ahead.

Walking Club is available for grades 3rd-8th. This was left off the last message by mistake. We hope everyone is off to a great start this year. Let's Go Panthers!

If your child is looking for a sport or club to join, we currently have a few options available. Soccer starts this week for 6th-8th grade. X-country has already started and takes place at Windsor Elementary School for 5th-8th grade. Walking Club will be starting on September 19th at Palermo on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on the nature trails. SHEEPSCOT VALLEY RSU12 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The 2023-2024 RSU 12 School Budget was approved by the voters of RSU 12. Thank you to the community for your support.

Reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, June 13th, there is a referendum on the proposed RSU 12 school district budget. Please remember to vote at your local polling stations.

This a reminder that if you are a resident of RSU 12, then the RSU 12 District Budget meeting will take place this Wednesday, May 24th, at 6:30 pm in the Chelsea Elementary School gym. Residents will learn about the school district budget and vote whether or not to approve the budget proposed by the RSU 12 School Board. Please attend this important meeting.

The current trends these issues present to children, how parents can identify them, some handy tips 'n' tricks and how parents can approach these issues with their children to protect them online.
