Reading with a flashlight . #readtoME

Tonight's challenge for Read To ME is to read with a flashlight. Maybe under the covers, behind the couch or even in the bathtub! Have fun with it and send your pictures.

Don't forget the Read to ME Challenge. Take your picture reading with your child to be shared on our school facebook page and the DOE Read to ME Campaign page. Send pictures to pmetta@svrsu.or or cbelanger@svrsu.org

Chelsea Elementary School is participating in the Read To ME Challenge. The powerful campaign challenges adults to read to children 15 minutes, to capture that reading with a photo or video and then post it on social media to challenge others to do the same. Hundreds of Maine schools, Community Literacy Groups, and other literacy organizations have partnered in the annual campaign and the Maine DOE. Be sure to get reading and tag those pictures and videos to Chelsea Elementary Updates and #ReadtoME
Wouldn’t it be great to see a picture of every student reading with an adult!
Tomorrow(Tuesday's) challenge is to upload yourself reading to your child/children while sitting under a table!!!!!!!!!!

If federal employees impacted by the shutdown would like to apply for school meal benefits for their children, they may so do through their local school district.
To apply – A special application can be downloaded from the Maine Department of Education’s website (linked below) and submitted to your local school’s food service program.

Monday is Sports Day and Sports Jersey Day. Pictures to follow

A huge thank you to the PTA for a fantastic Harvest Fest!

Can you believe that it's that time of the year, already?!!
Monday starts the kick off of our 3rd Annual "Spirit Week" Food Drive. I have decided to do it a week earlier this year, as the week that we normally hold it is only a four day week. Also, the book fair will be in full swing, so it made the most sense to move it to this coming week (11/5-11/9).
As you know, this is always a fun event for staff and students, and most importantly it makes a HUGE contribution to our own food pantry. It's a great way to pull everyone together for a meaningful cause, as we kick off the "season of giving". With your help, we have the opportunity to make a BIG contribution to those in need, within our own school community.
As far as collection goes, (per the usual) I will be around each day to collect and deliver items to the food cupboard. Each morning, as your students bring in items, you can set them outside your door. I will do a "sweep" of items at some point, after 9:00 a.m.
I have attached a copy of the "event letter", (the same one that I delivered to each of your classrooms today) for your reference. It lists the "daily themes" throughout the week. Please remember to send home the letters with your students, at the end of the day.
Thank you in advance for all of your support with this annual event!! Let's make it the BIGGEST and the BEST yet!!!!
