SCHOOL NEWS:

***Change in School Schedule: On Tuesday, November 3rd all schools in RSU#12 will have ALL STUDENTS LEARNING REMOTELY! November 3rd is voting day and due to Covid 19 social distancing needs, the town will be using our gym as Palermo's voting facility. Teachers will be preparing for this remote day and we will make sure you know what to expect. Your teacher will be asking all students/ parents if there is reliable internet and devices for use on that day. We will make accommodations for those without internet and devices.

As expected, we have started dealing with cold symptoms and we have had to make tough decisions regarding when students should stay home or come to school. We have sent home guidelines and we will continue to update the information when we receive changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our nurse, Deb Langis.

Palermo School Club - if you are interested in helping with activities and events throughout the year, please contact Danielle Reitchel at palermoschoolclub@gmail.com

SOCCER NEWS:

1.  On the day of the game, players will stay at school with Coach and bussed to the field/ town. RSU#12 is allowing spectators at home and away games - please try to limit the number of spectators to 2 because we have to follow the rule of only having 100 people at any event.  We will be requiring all spectators to wear masks and to social distance (unless you are of the same family).  Game schedule is available.  Click Here

2. The game against China on October 22 is located at the China Middle School soccer field.  We are not allowed to have any spectators at that game.  The China Middle School (RSU18) is not allowing any away-spectators on their field, in their cars or anywhere in sight of the game.   We will provide transportation back to the school after this game.

3.  PLEASE email me (soliphant@svrsu.org) if you are unable to provide transportation after our away games (except for the china game discussed above).  We typically have not needed to provide transportation back to the school after games but we will if someone needs a ride.

From the Principal’s Desk:

It is important to know how to prepare if Palermo School is designated YELLOW or RED.  Every two weeks, the Maine Department of Education determines if we can stay in school full time (green), have a hybrid schedule (yellow) or are fully remote (red).  There are a few counties that have been determined yellow and a few other schools have had to quarantine whole classes of students.  We hope that we will be able to stay in school but if we must go to a hybrid model I have separated students from each class/grade into two groups:  Cohort A and Cohort B.   In order to be prepared, I will share which cohort your child has been assigned next week.  Cohort A would attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Cohort B would attend school on Thursdays and Fridays.  Every Wednesday would be a remote learning day.    Students are expected to complete school work assignments during any remote learning days.  If students are unable to "attend" during the day, there will be accommodations made.  More details will be made available next week so you can prepare and predict what would happen in case covid19 impacts our school.

Enjoy your week!
