RSU 12 EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT INFORMATION

The federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that all states, school districts, and schools provide annual report cards to parents and communities.

The report cards are made available to the public in the following ways:

1. On the district web-site, https://www.svrsu.org/rsu-12-every-student-succeeds-act-information

2. A Public School Board meeting once a year.

3. Printed copies of these report cards are also available at central office upon request.

To view the most recent report cards for RSU 12 and each individual school, visit the ESSA Dashboard.

The federal Every Student Succeeds Act also requires that all states, school districts, and schools provide an opportunity for public comment on the ESSA grant application. The public comment window for RSU 12's ESSA grant application is between March 1st and June 30th. We welcome all public comment.  You may submit public comment at any RSU 12 school board meeting within this time frame.

Important - State Assessment Program Opt-Out Information: The RSU 12 School Department utilizes all assessment data to help inform our practices at the district, school, classroom and individual levels for our students. Although we encourage students and parents to participate fully in our assessment program, it is important to note that parents/guardians may opt their child out of state testing. If you are interested in doing so, please reach out to your child's principal to make this request in writing. Parents also have a right to request any district policies and procedures regarding student participation in state testing.

RSU 12 GEPA Statement: RSU 12 recognizes the importance of equitable access to, and participation in federally assisted programs for students, teachers, and their beneficiaries with special needs. Potential barriers that can impede equitable access to and participation in these programs includes gender, race, national origin, color, disability, and/or age. Individuals who are members of special populations will be provided with equal access to enrollment and placement in educational programs available to individuals who are not members of special populations, including specific courses, apprenticeship programs, Title I, and to the extent practicable, comprehensive career guidance and counseling services, and shall not be discriminated against on the basis of their status as members of special populations.

Descriptions of the steps that RSU 12 employs to overcome these barriers are as follows:

1. Ensuring accessibility of facilities and programs for all students, teachers, and other stakeholders, by eliminating natural barriers for the enhancement of mobility and accessibility.

2. Staff Development for teaching students in the least restrictive environment.

3. Providing academic adjustments and modifications in curriculum and instruction.

4. Equipment adaptation to ensure special populations can use equipment appropriately.

5. Providing related services such as occupational and physical therapy services, transportation, etc., to enhance participation programs.

6. Utilizing classroom assistants and tutors to enhance inclusionary practices.

7. Having psychologists, interventionists, and other professionals provide in-service training on teaching strategies for regular classroom teachers.

8. Maintaining a robust intervention system to identify students in need of assistance.
