Reminder that tomorrow (10/13) is picture day at Chelsea Elementary. Remote students are invited in from 12:00-1:30 if they are able. There will be another day scheduled for students being asked to quarantine. Date will be announced once we know it.

We have been informed that there is an individual with a Positive case of COVID 19 at Chelsea Elementary School. We are consulting with Maine CDC and conducting contact tracing. The school will remain open and we will continue in-person learning. Students and staff who are determined to have been close contacts will quarantine for 14 days. The areas of the building and the buses that were exposed will be deep cleaned. If your student came in close contact with the individual at Chelsea Elementary School, then you will be contacted directly by the school by phone with directions to quarantine. Thank you to everyone for following our safety protocols.

As planned, all schools in RSU 12 will resume in-person learning starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7, 2020. If your student was contacted and told to quarantine, then they should continue to do so. Thank you to everyone for following the safety protocols in our schools. We look forward to resuming in-person learning tomorrow.

As many of you have already been notified, Chelsea Elementary School will begin it’s 3-day closure starting October 2nd and with students potentially returning on October 7th. A decision will be made and communicated with families if we are able to return to school on the 7th or if we will complete the full week in remote learning. If that were to occur, students would return to school on October 13th. During this time CES will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch for all families, delivery service beginning on Monday, October 5th. This would provide food for Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Should the decision be made to extend the closure for the remainder of next week - Wednesday and Thursday (Friday is a planned Staff development day), food would be delivered on Wednesday to complete the week. This program mirrors our last foodservice delivery program from the summer.
If you are interested in having food delivered to your home while school is not in session, please contact Carol Belanger (cbelanger@svrsu.org) by the close of the day tomorrow (October 2nd).

Please read an important letter from the Superintendent about a Positive COVID-19 Case at Windsor Elementary School. You will be contacted by the school by phone if your student had direct contact with the individual. Out of an abundance of caution, all schools in RSU 12 will do remote learning starting immediately through Tuesday, October 6th. Students will return on October 7th for in-person learning if it is prudent to do so.

Please read an important letter from the Superintendent about a Probable COVID-19 Case at Windsor Elementary School. Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14th is voting day. The RSU 12 School Budget is on the ballot. Please remember to vote!

We are resending the child care survey because we heard from several people that it would be helpful to know the anticipated costs in order to respond. Through a partnership with RSU 12, the Boys and Girls Club of Kennebec Valley is exploring options for providing child care in RSU 12 schools in the coming year. The weekly cost is expected to be about $90 during the school year and $125 for a vacation week. In order to inform these plans, please take a moment to complete this survey and let us know if your family is interested in childcare before or after school and on school vacations. The survey will be open until Thursday, July 16. We apologize for having to ask you to complete it again but hope the information about cost is helpful. Isaac annoys me. I was looking forward to basketball season starting but everything is canceled now. I've been playing a lot with my dog and playing games and video games. I've been taking time to read and practice school stuff every day.

Unfortunately, we are unable to supply food today due to the widespread power outages and roads being blocked around the district. Our next food delivery will be on Monday.

Michael had an art day, he worked on his tree bark painting skills. Made the bunnies from toilet paper rolls. Painted with a plastic spoon,fork and knife. Using up the paint in his tray he used dental floss dipped it in the paint and pulled it through a folded piece of paper. He finished up with some Easter coloring. Michael, Mrs. Dunn would be so proud. I can't wait to show her these pictures. Great idea with the dental floss.

Today we loved our Zoom session with Mrs Beeckel. It is so cool to see all our friends. Boy do we miss everyone so much. When will this be over?
We shared Lily's bunny glasses to do our work. We think it definitely helped make it easier. Hehe he
After lunch we made Easter Eggs.
What a great day in Chelsea!
It definitely looks like you made the best of the day and it looks like those bunny glasses were just what was needed for focus today. Nice job Noah and Lily

A big thanks to Mrs.Brown, this morning I sent her a message at almost 8am to see if I could get some books for Mr. Gannon Man, he was struggling with reading ours at home, they just weren't his reading level... by 9am a stack of books was left at our door.. nope she didn't have to bring them to our house, and she could of waited till Friday when the bus would deliver them, but she went above and beyond to bring them to our house. She is truly an amazing teacher! When Clifton entered her classroom many moons ago, I knew we were in good hands, and now were 3 kids in! We are so thankful to have her in our lives ❤️
Thanks!

Learning packets will not be available until tomorrow. Parents who have contacted us for drop off will have them dropped off. If you did not make arrangements with the school, your child's packet will be available in the foyer between 9-1:00 Friday, or from 9-10:30 next week.

Reminder that meals and Continued Learning Packets will be delivered between 9 and 11 this Friday morning. The busses may be a little slower on Fridays', as drivers and our many delivery people will be stopping at more homes and have more to deliver. Together we can do this!
Remember to take pictures of our student learners for the facebook page! Walking is learning, going outside and building a fort or playing legos and building something to save the world is learning, cooking with mom or dad is learning. Make learning fun! and show everyone else how Chelsea does learning!

MEDIA RELEASE: Maine DOE Seeks Students to Serve on First-ever Student Cabinet
The Maine Department of Education (DOE) today announced that it is launching its first-ever student cabinet, a group of students that will meet quarterly with Commissioner Pender Makin to discuss educational opportunities, improvements, and policy. The purpose of the Student Cabinet is to provide a forum for Maine students’ voices to be heard.
Cabinet meetings will allow students from different grade levels, backgrounds, and areas of Maine to share their opinions and offer advice about Maine’s education system with Maine’s Commissioner of Education and other leaders from the Maine Department of Education.
Students grades 4 – 12 and first year of college are invited to submit an application to be a member of the Student Cabinet. Members selected will serve for a term of 12 months starting on November 1, 2019.
Cabinet meetings will be held throughout the school year. Most meetings are expected to be held as video conferences which will require cabinet members to have access to a computer or device with an internet connection. There will be at least one in-person meeting, for which the Maine DOE will reimburse travel costs.
Student Cabinet members will be selected based on representation of Maine’s geography, with a goal of two students from each county in Maine, based on the pool of applications submitted, and inclusive of the diverse cultural and economic backgrounds of students throughout Maine.
Selected students will be expected to attend scheduled meetings, prepare for each meeting as needed, work in a collaborative manner with each other and with Department staff as needed; and express views and opinions openly, constructively, and respectfully.
By becoming a member on the Maine DOE Student Cabinet, students will benefit by:
Having a direct role in improving education for students in Maine;
Gain important leadership, public speaking, decision making, and team building skills;
Develop a network of support and mentors through exposure to leaders across the state, and;
Have a great addition to their resume and applications for secondary opportunities.
Instructions for applying:
Students interested in serving on the Maine DOE Student Cabinet will need to submit the electronic application, with consent from a parent or guardian, by Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 5 pm. Applications can be submitted electronically here.

Monday is Sports Day and Sports Jersey Day. Pictures to follow

Can you believe that it's that time of the year, already?!!
Monday starts the kick off of our 3rd Annual "Spirit Week" Food Drive. I have decided to do it a week earlier this year, as the week that we normally hold it is only a four day week. Also, the book fair will be in full swing, so it made the most sense to move it to this coming week (11/5-11/9).
As you know, this is always a fun event for staff and students, and most importantly it makes a HUGE contribution to our own food pantry. It's a great way to pull everyone together for a meaningful cause, as we kick off the "season of giving". With your help, we have the opportunity to make a BIG contribution to those in need, within our own school community.
As far as collection goes, (per the usual) I will be around each day to collect and deliver items to the food cupboard. Each morning, as your students bring in items, you can set them outside your door. I will do a "sweep" of items at some point, after 9:00 a.m.
I have attached a copy of the "event letter", (the same one that I delivered to each of your classrooms today) for your reference. It lists the "daily themes" throughout the week. Please remember to send home the letters with your students, at the end of the day.
Thank you in advance for all of your support with this annual event!! Let's make it the BIGGEST and the BEST yet!!!!

The Hall-Dale Key Club is holding a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 27th from 4:30 to 6pm at the Hall-Dale Elementary School parking lot. This event is free but donations for UNICEF are greatly appreciated. The students go all out to decorate their cars, organize games, and provide a fun Halloween event for area youngsters.

RSU 12 would like to improve its communication efforts. We want to be sure that parents and community members know what is happening in our schools and that we are providing information in a way that works for them.
In order for us to make improvements, we need your help. We would like to know what kinds of things you'd like to hear about and how we can best communicate.
Please join me on Wednesday, October 10:00 from 5:00-6:00 pm at Windsor Elementary School for an informal discussion to provide some input about how we can improve our communication efforts. This will be an opportunity for you to share your ideas, thoughts about what you'd like to see, and positive communication experiences you've had that we can learn from. We will brainstorm topics that you want to hear about, how often you'd like to have communication, and what kinds of communication means (paper newsletters, website updates, mobile apps, etc.) you'd prefer.
