Dear Palermo Parents;
I hope everyone is excited for school to start! There are some updates and information you will need for the first day of school.
I would like to make sure that everyone knows that the first day of school is September 2nd. This is a change from our original plan. School starts at 8:00, we load busses to go home starting at 1:50.
Student drop off is at the gym door from the back parking lot. Please say your goodbyes in the car in order for us to keep the cars moving.
Dismissal for loading buses will start at 1:50 and will roll out at 2:00. Students being picked up will be called to the gym starting at 1:55. Students with last names starting with an A - L will be called down at 1:55. Students with last names M-Z will be called down at 2:00. Pick up area is in the back parking lot and staff will send students out when we see their vehicle.
I would like to ask parents to drop off and pick up their children if they are able. Our safety plan for the bus includes, wearing a mask, hand sanitizing, and spacing students to the best of our ability. Our buses, at this point, have two students per seat. Thank you for considering this option.

Please be patient on the first few days as the pick up times will fluctuate a bit.
There has been an update with sports: RSU 12 is following the recommendations of the MPA (Maine Principals Association). They have stated that there will be sports teams allowed as long as we follow recommendations. I will send home information regarding our soccer season as soon as we have meetings to determine a plan. Palermo typically has only one soccer team that is co-ed for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Palermo Rec League runs programs for the younger students.
If there are plans for your student to eat breakfast at school, could you please email me. We would like an estimate of how many will eat breakfast on the first day (Cereal, cheese stick, milk). Breakfast will be eaten in the room at 8:05. I have attached menus to this email.
Due to our water bottle filling station being on back order, we will have water available to students who need it. Overall, please plan to have a refillable water bottle for your child to use every day. If you need one, please reach out so we can make sure everyone has one.
Please make sure your students have shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. We will be out for recess twice per day, we will have classes outside, and we have Physical Education classes twice per week outside; weather permitting. We will not be able to provide sneakers from our sneaker bin this year. If sneakers and warm clothes are required we will call home for you to bring them to school.
