These meetings are for parents/guardians of any 7th or 8th grade student who wants to be able to take home a school laptop. Our 7th and 8th grade students have MacBook Air laptops as part of Maine Learning Technology Initiative. MLTI, through the Maine Dept. of Education and RSU 12, provides laptops as educational tools to 7th and 8th graders. We are required to hold these meetings to make sure you understand the school policies and your responsibilities regarding student use of school laptops at home.

Please understand that the school district does not require students to take home a laptop and the school does not require homework to be done on computers. However, it is the school district’s goal to encourage student learning through access to their laptops at home. Whether or not your child takes home a laptop is a family decision.

If you do not want your child to take home a school laptop, you do not need to attend either meeting. If you met with our Technology Coordinator last school year you do not have to attend this meeting. Otherwise, if you have questions about take-home policies or want your child to be able to take home his/her laptop, a parent/guardian must attend one of these meetings or make other arrangements to meet with the Technology Coordinator.
