Wiscasset Middle School held a very special assembly on May 8th, National Teacher Appreciation Day. The assembly was to announce that Mrs. Tricia Campbell had been chosen to be one of the 2012 Unum Maine Teachers' Hall of Fame "Starting 9." This is the seventh year that Unum and the Portland Sea Dogs have teamed up to highlight the great work Maine teachers do in the classroom everyday. They choose three primary, three middle school, and three high school teachers to be their Starting 9. Mrs. Campbell and the other eight teachers will be honored at the Sea Dogs' game on June 8th. They will receive a personalized Sea Dogs' uniform, six tickets to the game, a meal for them and their guests, a check for $500.00, and the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Wiscasset Middle School is very pleased to a teacher
chosen two years in a row as Mrs. Debbie Gray was a member of the 2011 "Starting 9."
Please join us in Congratulating Mrs. Helen Beesley from Windsor Elementary School, for being selected Teacher of the Month by the radio station B98.5. Â She received gift certificates to local restaurants and a nice trophy. She also is in the running for the Teacher of the Year and could win $1000 in school supplies and also a $2500 smart board for the school! Â Â In this Picture... On Friday April 13th, Students and Staff of Wiscasset High School showed their support and wore purple for "Purple Up" Day which is a day that raises awareness and honors the children of the US Military.
The two little girls are the grandaughters of Joe Hovance who works as an Educational Technician at Wiscasset High School. They are wrapped in their Daddy's Marine jacket.
"Purple Up" Day was started in New Hampshire but has gone national this year. It is a day set aside to raise awareness of the children of the US Military and the sacrifices they make in their daily lives. With a parent in the military, these children have to go long periods of time without one or both of their parents.
